Monkey Adopts Stray Puppy

Everyone loves a cute animals story and the latest one to go viral is of a monkey seemingly adopting a stray puppy. Putting aside charges of anthropomorphism, it makes for a fun and tender video.

The caring monkey was spotted by a passer-by in Rode, India. Here a rhesus macaque monkey has seen “adopting” a stray dog and is caring for the dog just as a human would for a child.

After comforting the dog, the monkey proceeds to groom the dog, looking for fleas. Later the monkey protects the puppy from older, more aggressive dogs.

The rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta), is one of the best-known species of Old World monkeys. The monkeys are brown or grey in color and they have a characteristic a pink face, without fur.  The monkeys are currently listed as an endangered species.

According to Zee News, who first ran the voodoo:

“People who have seen them spoke of their strong mutual affection and described their bond as the most caring thing in the world — to take care of a puppy in danger and protect him like a parent…Their undying affection gives us a valuable lesson about relationships.”
